November 29, 2018 | More good news from the field comes in as we get word that our whole team has received their eagerly awaited weather window! As a group all climbers and guides boarded the Twin Otter airplane with all their essential equipment to move in, and establish basecamp on the apron of Mt. Vinson. The views from the ride in are world class and few people in the world truly get to experience Antarctica from such a unique perspective. The plane with it’s twin prop engines truly enhances that expedition experience of venturing into the relatively unknown and as our the expedition team continue to build a strong report with one another that will be necessary to reach the summit.
Not only did the team successfully establish basecamp but they went one step further and moved a load of equipment to the low camp area, along the established route up the peak. What tends to be a common theme on these trips, high wind was again forecasted for the low camp area. The team made a good decision and opted to carry equipment to the camp but not erect any structures in the blistering winds.
Safe back at camp with food and water in their system the team is enjoying what little bit of down time remains before they get to work scaling this once in a lifetime mountain.
Stay tuned for more updates as our trip unfolds.
