December 29,2018 | Never let perfection inhibit progress, and luckily for our climbers and explorers that is exactly the reality they are living down there. With a less than ideal weather event to finish off the season we are still making progress.
Some may have seen our V2 team safely returned from Vinson basecamp to Union Glacier. Still not home quite yet they are actively working on coordinating their flights back to Chile and ultimately home-sweet-home.
Our second Last Degree group had to make a difficult decision to shorten their ski to the South Pole in an attempt to maintain their time schedule that was affected by bad weather getting into Union Glacier. A unanimous decision the group truly embodied expedition behavior and adapted to the situation and made the right call to achieve their objective.
They are currently at 16 nautical miles South Pole and within a few days will be standing at the geographic South Pole. A truly awesome accomplishment. With some luck and efficient logistics, the turn around time back to civilization will be smooth and quick.
Wish the teams down there luck as we wrap up a very successful season in Antarctica.
