The South Pole Ski team is all packed up and ready to go. Here are some excerpts from Jaco who wrote a summary up to date yesterday. The team is scheduled to depart for Antarctica on Monday the 18th if there is no weather delays.
It has been many days of good team building and packing of food, so that everyone is familiar with what the expedition has. We have enjoyed some nice evenings out in Punta Arenas for dinner and finally today checked all the luggage into the flight company for the next morning. Now everyone is relaxing for the final day in town. Taking hot showers, eating a lot and all that remains is to board the big plane and take the 4.5 hour flight down to land at Union Glacier camp.
The team will spend several days there preparing sleds, practicing the day to day systems of tents and loading sleds. Time for some practice skiing to get used to all the layers and things for getting ready to go. Once ready after some days there at Union Glacier camp, the team will catch a twin otter ski plane out to the Hercules Inlet start point on the coast of Antarctica.
