Well as sometimes happens, unfortunately for the South Pole team, 4 days into a weather system that has sat atop Union Glacier in Antarctica has the team sitting still in Punta Arenas. Strong winds and snow are have been the consistent forecast all week down south, and so the team has been passing the time by trying to relax, doing some sightseeing tours, and generally enjoying the comforts of hotels and restaurants.
Jaco and Paula took a Penguin tour to the nearby island and now have switched hotels to shake things up a bit. Some of the other groups waiting to fly have gone to Torres del Paine Park which is a 3 hour bus ride away but our team has just opted for more local distractions and attractions.
The weather at Union Glacier has been challenging from what the team hears, with 30 knot winds and blowing snow, the captain of the plane that flies down has been holding steady waiting for a better update. This evening the teams expects another fresh set of news for the next days and a potential flight down to the ice to finally get going towards the pole. Lets hope for good weather and a rapid start.
