We are happy to be back in Kathmandu with the team for the Everest 2022 climbing expedition. Things are bustling along in the capitol city of Nepal, streets are full and shops are back to their normal chaotic but wonderful selves. The pre trip days have been full but relaxed so far, with a general trip meeting and gear check as we prepare for the upcoming expedition. Our climbers have been touring the city and picking up last minute items they may need for the journey.
The team is scheduled to fly to Lukla on April 9th and we hope for the best however the weather in Lukla has been quite socked in with clouds for some days and many groups have been waiting to fly, so we shall hope for the best tomorrow. Once we do in fact land in the mountain town, we will begin our hike to Phakding for the first day of the trek to Everest Base Camp.
The number of permits is lower this year and all indications from the projected number of climbers is down from the previous seasons. We will wait and see how that turns out, as with recent years more people seem to show up at the base camp as the season progresses. For now we are focused on the upcoming trip and ready to get back into the Khumbu region. Our team of Sherpas has been at base camp for several weeks preparing our spot there and we look forward to catching up soon with our team of cooks and climbing sherpas there. More updates to come along the way.
