Trip Description
At 28,251 feet (8,611 meters), Mt. K2 is the world’s second highest peak and one of the Prized 8,000m peaks. So much history and culture has evolved around the route up K2, it has become goal for many mountaineers throughout the world. Join the Mountain Professionals K2 veterans for a privately guided expedition to the world’s second tallest peak. Our trip consists of high western staff to client ratio, 1:1 Sherpa to client ratio, and a small team mentality. We feel that this is a huge advantage in your summit chances with an emphasis on safety.
The Abruzzi Ridge route on K2, in Pakistan is one of the classic routes in the Himalaya. The route was first climbed in July of 1954 by an Italian team. The route on K2 is a serious undertaking, with possible objective hazards that can change throughout the climbing season. Only mountaineers with personal climbing experience on past 8,000 meter mountains would be considered for the trip.
We feel that being part of a strong team on K2 has great advantages for reaching the summit. Our expeditions, although led by professional mountain guides, has a feeling of relaxed efficiency, with two-way communication between the staff and the team members. We feel there is a huge advantage to joining a small, highly organized group of climbers, led by our staff to manage all the on mountain logistics and risk management. This ensures that you can concentrate on climbing K2 and can rely on the experience of the expedition leader.
The route from Base Camp requires acclimatizing prior to a summit push. Therefore, we choose to do our first acclimatizing rotation on a nearby mountain called Pastore Peak. A one day climb of Pastore Peak allows us to reach an altitude of over 6,000 meters, climbing a relatively straightforward route with little objective hazards. After returning to Base Camp we rest and begin our planning for the next climb to the higher camps. We return to the upper mountain on K2, to C1 and the following day (21,980′) or 6,700 meters. The following day we would climb to Camp Three at an elevation of (23,800′) or 7,225 meters to sleep for one night. We return to Base Camp to rest and prepare for a summit push.
This is the highest quality expedition you will find for an exceptional price. All the in-country transportation, the on mountain services, food, tents, porters, oxygen, and guides are included and are of high quality.
