On November 26, 2018 the Mountain Professionals team of 7 adventurers and two guides officially landed in Antarctica. After meeting in Punta Arenas (Southern Chile) and taking a couple of days to discuss logistics, complete necessary equipment checks and wait for a clear weather window, the team finally touched down on the blue ice runway at Union Glacier Camp. As you could expect the weather in such an extreme environment is not always as hospitable as we would hope for. The clear weather extended long enough for our team to arrive but provided a bit of a hurdle when establishing our camp on the ice. Despite inclement weather and strong winds our team, in good form, persevered and established our tent camp. We are quickly learning everyones strengths and areas of improvement and how to leverage those in the most efficient way possible and as a team we are coming together extraordinarily well. Currently the team is waiting for a clear weather window to board the Twin Otter aircraft which will transfer us our basecamp for the expedition and put us that much closer to achieving our goal of summiting the tallest peak in Antarctica, Mt. Vinson.
Stay tuned as we share more of our teams progress on their expedition to summit the tallest mountain in Antarctica.
